Project 1-Case Study : Analysing Passive Design Strategies

In this project, me and my groupmates are required to choose a GBI Rated building in KL and conduct a passive design study on it. The building that we have chosen is Shalini Ganendra Fine Art Gallery Residence. I am assigned to conduct a detail research onto the building's most prominent passive design feature which is a wind chimney. Me and a few of my groupmates went to the Malaysian Meteorological Department to obtain the local wind data of Petaling Jaya and then we compared it with the online database provided by Vasari. Follow on, we conducted a wind pressure test by using Vasari to idetify the efficiency of the wind chimney. Throughout the project, I have successfully identified the environmental conditions related to the site, climate and etc. Besides that, I am able to explain the effect of sun, insulation, thermal mass and air movement on the thermal performance of the building.
