Materiality of Space: Encountering Space and Materiality

For this project, me and my group members are required to conduct a research onto a site that has been chosen. We have decided to do a research on Boh Tea Visitor Centre, Cameroon Highland. We have been instructed to identify the building materials used and the reasons it is being used. Throughout this project, I have been able to produce a complete documentation and analysis of materials in respect to physical and chemical properties. Next, I have successfully identified various types of building material (Finished and structural). Moreover, I have managed to understand the effects of building materials on aesthetics and structural qualities of a space or building. Furthermore, I have understood the appropriateness of materials used in several factors such as occupancy, concept and climate. Then, I have acquired analytical skill in understanding selection of building materials for a building. Last but not least, I have managed to understand the application or installation of material as finish and structural material.

Project 2- Integration

In this assignment, I am required to identify the materials that my dreamspace building will use. I have to list down the materials that will be used and the reasons why they are being used. So, from this project, I have been able to apply the understanding of various types of building material which affects the tactile and chemical properties of the building. Next, I have explored and identified various types of building materials and technology. Then, I have understood the effects of building materials on occupancy, aesthetics and stuctural qualities of a building. Lastly, I have managed to produce drawing to visualize the architectural effects of proposed materials.
